Recording

Every Session includes a Moon Staff Engineer.  All of our Engineers are fully and professionally trained in the art and science of sound engineering, and are ready to help you produce the best sounding audio recording possible.
You can book a new session on-demand, 24/7, up to 1 year in advance, using our online booking system at www.knokheadstudio/book.

The minimum session booking in Studio A is our 2-Hour Session and in Studio B, our 3-Hour Session.
All edits, bounces, exports, etc. must be completed during your booked session time, as session bookings do not include additional unattended Editing. To avoid having to book additional time, please remember to request all necessary files during your session.

Studio Setup

To ensure that you get the most out of your recording session, we complete as much setup as possible before you arrive.
A Vocal Setup is included with every session booking, and will be ready for your arrival at our studios. If you’re planning to record something other than vocals, we recommend that you book a Setup with your session.
The price of our various Setups correspond to the amount of time needed before your session start time for your Engineer to set up instruments and microphones, route your audio through our collection of analog preamps and compressors, set up your custom headphone mixes and labels, configuring your Pro Tools session, loading provided audio/video media, and a full breakdown after your session time is complete.
They are less expensive than using a portion of your session time for your Engineer to set up while you are in the studio. Though not required, we highly recommend you take advantage of them so that you get the most out of your recording time.

Session Extensions

In the event that your session needs to run longer than your scheduled time, your Engineer will allow additional time based on studio availability.  The rates for session extensions are $95/hr in Studio A and $75/hr in Studio B.  Extended time will be rounded to the next additional hour, and the additional cost will be added to your balance payment.

Engineering & Operating

Our Engineers are extensively trained in Avid Pro Tools.  We use Pro Tools because it is the most robust and industry-standard software available for recording and editing audio.
Guest engineers and producers may Operate (control the Digital Audio Workstation on our Studio CPUs) their own sessions if desired, and we offer full technical support for Pro Tools. We also have a variety of other popular DAWs available to use on our Studio CPUs, however, we do not offer technical support for their use.
Guest engineers may not modify the equipment setup of their session.  An Assistant Engineer will be standing by for your immediate assistance and can make any setup changes necessary within your booked session time.
If you have any special requests for your Engineer (i.e. sonic references, mic choice, placement, analog processing), please enter them in your Notes when booking, and we’ll be ready for you when you get to the studio.
Moon Recording does not provide any legal guidance in regards to copyright infringement or the legal usage of any pre-recorded materials. By providing your own audio/video (“Media”), or instructing/requesting your Engineer to use other Media from any other sources, you are assuming all legal responsibility for proper usage rights over said Media.

Rescheduling & Cancellations

If you need to reschedule or cancel your session, simply click the “Reschedule/Cancel Session” button in your session confirmation email. You can then select and confirm your new session time instantly, 24/7, using our online scheduler.
This is the fastest and easiest way to confirm your scheduling changes and minimize any applicable fees. Advance notice is determined from the point of confirmed scheduling changes. Please note that while we are happy to help over the phone or via email/chat, we are only able to confirm any scheduling changes during our office hours, and our availability is first come, first served.
Our Rescheduling and Cancellation policies, detailed below, are based on a 48-hour time frame. Sessions can be scheduled online for as soon as 20 hours in advance. If you need to book a session sooner, give us a call during our office hours, and we’ll do our best to accommodate you (see our Contact page for hours and details).
If you book a session less than 48 hours in advance, you will have a 1-hour buffer within which you may make any scheduling changes before the below policies go into effect.

Rescheduling

You may reschedule your Sesssion up to 2 times at no expense with 48 hours or more of notice.
•  If you reschedule your Session 12-48 hours prior to your Session start time, you will be charged a   Rescheduling Fee of 25% of your Session Grand Total.
•  If you reschedule your Session within 12 hours of your Session start time, you will be charged a   Rescheduling Fee of 50% of your session grand total. Rescheduling Fees apply each time a session is rescheduled within these timeframes.
•  After 2 reschedulings, you will be charged a fee of 25% of your Session grand total for each subsequent rescheduling, in addition to any other applicable Rescheduling Fees outlined above.
All Rescheduling Fees will be added to the full cost of your rescheduled session, and charged with your post-session balance. Rescheduling is subject to Engineer and Studio availability, and is not confirmed until you receive an official confirmation email.

Cancellations

Session Cancellations incur a 15% Cancellation Fee.
•  If you cancel your Session 12-48 hours prior to your session start time, your 50% deposit will be forfeited.
•  If you cancel your Session within 12 hours of your session start time, your 50% deposit will be forfeited and you will be charged the remaining 50% balance upon cancellation.

No-Show Policy

If you do not arrive within 45 minutes of your session start time, your session will be cancelled and you will be charged the full amount of your session grand total.
If you have any last-minute problems getting to the studio, please call your engineer using the phone number found in your session reminder email (sent 24 hours prior to your session).  Please note that if you are late, your session will still end at the scheduled time, so we recommend arriving to the studio early to utilize your full session time.

Mixing

Audio Requirements

“Mix Complete” audio track count is unlimited. “Mix Lite” track count is limited to 8 audio tracks (mono/stereo). Audio must be delivered as time-aligned, raw audio tracks/stems or Pro Tools session. We do not accept sessions in other DAWs for mix. If you are sending a session, please confirm that all audio files are included, all tracks are labeled, and that there is no plug-in processing.  Any processing or effects you wish to retain should be committed to the audio in the session.
Mixes do not include any production work, such as recording, arranging, or editing (i.e. timing or tuning adjustments). To complete this type of work prior to your mix, please book a recording/editing session.

Revisions

Initial mixing sessions are unattended, directly after which your Mix Engineer will digitally deliver your initial mix pass, Mix 1.0.
Your Mix Edit Session (attended or remote) is then scheduled and conducted, after which Mix 1.1 is digitally delivered.
If you have any further changes needed, you may then submit your remote revision notes in writing. We will then schedule your Engineer to reflect these adjustments and deliver an updated version as soon as possible.
If you have used all of the remote revisions included in your Mix package, you may purchase an additional Mix Revision here, which you may attend or remotely connect to in real time.
At any point during this process, Final Mix Approval may be given, at which point, all Deliverables will be sent as soon as possible.

Deliverables

Once your Final Mix is approved, we will digitally transfer all Mix Deliverables.
Mix Deliverables include your:
• Final Mix print
• Mix Versions (i.e. Instrumental, A cappella, TV/Performance Tracks)
• Mix Stems/Subgroups (i.e. Vocals, Guitars, Keys, Synths, Bass, Drums, FX)
The exportation and transfer of all requested Deliverables are included in all Mix Packages, and there are no limits to the amount of Deliverables you may request, within reason.
Your Engineer will clarify all Deliverables at your Mix Edit Session. If you have any additional Deliverable requests after this point, you must request these in writing prior to your Final Mix Delivery. After Final Mix Delivery, you will be required to book a session to complete any further exports of Mix Deliverables.
DAW Mix sessions will not be delivered under any circumstance.

Billing

All services included with a purchased Mix Package must be completed within 30 days of initial Mix delivery, or we reserve the right to terminate any incomplete Mix projects with no refund.

Mastering

Your audio for mastering must be delivered with the following technical specifications:

Format: Uncompressed .WAV (preferred) or .AIFF audio
Bit Rate: 24-bit (preferred) or 16-bit
Sample Rate: 44.1k, 48k, 88.2k, or 96k
Please make sure that any master buss processing is removed before sending for mastering.  If there is no dynamic range in your track, it severely limits our ability to make it sound amazing.  Mastering sessions will be unattended and your master will be delivered within 5 business days of booking.
If you have any revision requests, please send them as soon as possible after you receive your master. If you require a Master Recall 15 days or more from the date your initial master is delivered, you will be charged $50 in addition to the price of any additional versions required.

Billing

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover Credit/Debit Cards via our online payment system.  If you have special requirements, such as Bank Transfer, International Wire, or Corporate Check payments, please contact us.

Attended Sessions

To confirm any session in our scheduling calendar, we require the full payment of your Session Total, plus the full fees of any session musicians.
By booking your session, you agree to have the remaining balance charged to the same payment method used for your Deposit the business day following your session. No files or bounces will be released until this payment is received.

Post-Production Services

Any unused purchases of Post-Production Services, such as Mixing and Mastering, are refundable within 7 days from the date of purchase for a full refund. After this date, they are transferrable to other projects, songs, material, or clients, but are not refundable or transferrable to other types of Services. All Post-Production Services may be scheduled for and used at any point within 3 months (90 days) from the date of purchase.By booking your session, you agree to have the remaining balance charged to the same payment method used for your Deposit the business day following your session. No files or bounces will be released until this payment is received.

Session Archiving

We dedicate time after every tracking, mixing, and editing session to archive your session to our encrypted servers for optimum security and backup of your session data.  A downloadable link to your session backup will be provided upon request, within 24 hours after the completion of your session.  Session file requests outside of 24 hours are subject to a $25 Archival Fee. 

Project Packages

In addition to the services, we sell on our website, including Recording Sessions and Post-Production services such as Mixing and Mastering, we develop quotes and sell custom Project Packages. These Packages may include Music Production services, Audio Production and Post-Production services, Contracting of Session Musicians, VO Talent, and Post Production Specialists, and other services.
The Terms & Conditions on this page apply to the services sold on our website. If you have received a custom quote for a Project Package, please refer to the Terms outlined in your Estimate and/or Invoice for specific agreements regarding your Project. By paying a deposit or full invoice and confirming a Project Package work agreement, you agree to adhere to the specific Terms stated therein and, additionally, to the Terms on this page.

Miscellaneous

No smoking is allowed in any of the Studios.  There’s a Hallway in the back area of the studio.
Booked sessions are not transferrable to other clients.
By your presence in our Studios, you acknowledge and accept that you may be photographed, video recorded, and/or audio recorded for marketing, advertising, and/or publicity uses. Further, you grant your permission for your likeness to be included without compensation, credit, or consideration. If you would like to opt-out of any of the previous, please mention this to us prior to your session and we will make sure you have a closed and discrete session.
If there is a bank-required chargeback of your credit card payment (usually due to a fraudulent or disputed transaction), you will be held liable for submitting a valid replacement payment, plus an additional 25% surcharge.  No files will be released until valid payment is made.
The Terms & Conditions on this page apply to the services sold on our website. If you have received a custom quote for a Project Package, please refer to the Terms outlined in your Estimate and/or Invoice for specific agreements regarding your Project. By paying a deposit or full invoice and confirming a Project Package work agreement, you agree to adhere to the specific Terms stated therein and, additionally, to the Terms on this page.
